Simon Schaitkin is a Tom Henderson Civil Rights Fellow.

Simon first worked at Sanford Heisler Sharp McKnight as a Legal Assistant. In that time, he helped represent various clients, including the following:

• A former employee of Robert De Niro in her gender discrimination claims
• An engineer formerly employed by one of the largest oil companies in the world in gender discrimination and sexual harassment claims
• A physician who was harassed based on gender identity
• Employees who were terminated after taking maternity leave
• A corporate officer who opposed a discriminatory scheme to terminate an employee based on race

Simon received his law degree from New York University and his Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University. Simon graduated cum laude from NYU, where he was a Managing Editor of the NYU Law Review and a Jo Freeman Public Service Scholar for his work in supporting women’s rights.

As a student advocate in NYU’s Critical Race Lawyering and Civil Rights clinic, he helped represent clients seeking to have a Confederate monument removed from public land on constitutional grounds. He also worked with the Brennan Center for Justice’s Public Policy Advocacy Clinic to advocate against mass voter challenges. Additionally, he served as a Peggy Browning Fellow at the Women’s Law Project, where he helped advocate on behalf of Pennsylvania workers and worked to strengthen reproductive rights under the Pennsylvania constitution.

Before joining Sanford Heisler Sharp McKnight, Simon completed a judicial internship with Judge Claire C. Cecchi, of the District Court of New Jersey. Following his fellowship, he will complete a clerkship with Magistrate Judge Taryn A. Merkl of the Eastern District Court of New York.

Simon began his career as a musical theater performer and, when not lawyering, can often be found singing karaoke with his fiancee.
