Matt Marsden is a Legal Assistant in the Nashville office of Sanford Heisler Sharp McKnight, a national law firm with offices in the District of Columbia, New York, California, and Tennessee. Matt earned his B.A. with high distinction in Political Philosophy, Policy, & Law and a B.A. in History from the University of Virginia.

At UVA, Matt was heavily involved in conducting legal and historical research with different professors. Some of his projects have included an examination of how Jim Crow state constitutions reshaped notions of citizenship at the turn of the twentieth century, how avenues to legalization for undocumented immigrants were once widespread through courts’ use of equity, and how the United States’ historical preservation laws were shaped by the reconstruction of Eastern Europe after World War Two. Matt also participated in the University’s Judiciary Committee, and he represented his major department in the College of Arts and Sciences. In his free time, Matt volunteered with the Statewide Legal Services of Connecticut and the UVA LGBTQ Center.

Matt plans on attending law school in the future, and he hopes to work with regulatory agencies and lawmakers to reform banking law and financial institutions. He enjoys reading, listening to music, and spending time with friends.
