Maliha Jahangiri is a Legal Assistant at Sanford Heisler Sharp’s New York Office. Maliha graduated with highest distinction from the University of Virginia in May 2019, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Government and African-American Studies. As part of the Distinguished Majors Program, her thesis focused on the legacies of slavery and Southern penal practices on incarcerated populations’ experiences with correctional healthcare, specifically examining the gendered and racialized particularities of their interactions with healthcare providers.

Prior to joining our team, Maliha pursued her dedication to social justice working as an intern at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights as a UVA Public Service Grant Recipient, running progressive political campaigns as a Fellow with the Virginia Student Power Network, and engaging in Title IX advocacy on her campus. Most recently, she worked at the Legal Aid Justice Center in Charlottesville, Virginia on a class-action lawsuit against the Virginia Department of Corrections for failing to provide constitutionally adequate healthcare to female prisoners.

Maliha intends to pursue law school in the future in order to continue working to advance civil rights protections for marginalized communities.
