Supervisors at their regular monthly meeting in Halifax approved a retainer agreement with Sanford Heisler Sharp law firm regarding a suit against Johnson & Johnson related to the ongoing opioid epidemic .

The agreement retains Sanford Heisler Sharp, LLP as lead counsel to represent Halifax County in the investigation and prosecution of any legal action against Johnson & Johnson and its subsidiaries in connection with Johnson & Johnson’s manufacture and sale of active ingredients used in the production of final opioid prescription products and the manufacture, marketing and distribution of final prescription products that have caused harm to residents of Halifax County.

In answering a question from ED-6 supervisor Stanley Brandon, Simpson said the county pays no up front expenses in joining the lawsuit but is eligible for 25% of any money if legal action is successful.
