Ting Cheung

Associate

Ting Cheung is an Associate at Sanford Heisler Sharp.

At Sanford Heisler Sharp, Ting focuses her practice on employment law and whistleblower/qui tam claims. She also handles cases of wrongful death, contractual disputes, and sexual violence. Given her native proficiency in Mandarin and Cantonese, and her legal training in Hong Kong and the U.S., Ting understands the cultural nuances in representing Asian American employees and whistleblowers.

Working with a team of Sanford Heisler Sharp attorneys, Ting has represented clients including:

  • an employee who was terminated after reporting their employer’s fraudulent conduct
  • the surviving spouse of an employee in a wrongful death case
  • a law firm partner in negotiating a separation agreement
  • a tech employee who was discriminated against based on race and national origin
  • health care executives who encountered racial discrimination and retaliation at work
  • Asian American whistleblowers in their communications with various U.S. government agencies

Ting received her law degrees from the University of Hong Kong (LL.B.) and Harvard Law School (LL.M.). At Harvard Law School, Ting was a Student Attorney at the Harvard Prison Legal Assistance Project. She also volunteered as an Interpreter at the Harvard Defenders and Harvard Legal Aid Bureau, assisting Cantonese-speaking clients in criminal defense and tenancy dispute cases. Ting was awarded the Hong Kong Jockey Club Graduate Scholarship for pursuing her LL.M. While at the University of Hong Kong, Ting minored in Japanese and interned at the United Nations Secretariat twice.

Since 2020, Ting has been serving as an Expert on the World Bank Group’s Women, Business and the Law project. Before joining Sanford Heisler Sharp, Ting was an East Asian Legal Studies Visiting Scholar at Harvard Law School, researching LGBTQ and migrant workers’ rights in Japan. Prior to her LL.M. studies, Ting was a trainee solicitor at the Hong Kong Department of Justice. She is experienced in criminal prosecution and appeals, civil litigation and bilingual legislative drafting. Specifically, she gained substantial experience in criminal trial advocacy and juvenile court hearings. As part of her training, Ting was seconded to an international law firm where she practiced family law and commercial litigation. She also engaged in human rights and LGBTQ advocacy work at nonprofits in Hong Kong.

Ting is an advocate for neurodiversity and LGBTQ rights and has authored publications on these topics.

When Ting is not lawyering, she enjoys learning languages, gardening, singing, and running.
